Building thriving school communities

Change impacts all areas of society but some sectors are impacted earlier, and more deeply by trends, than others. The education sector engages across the generations from the youngest children to parents and grandparents, faces the waves of social trends and technological change earlier than most others, and is directly impacted by the demographic trends of population growth, ageing and cultural diversity.

While communities were once served by numerous mediating institutions from service clubs and sporting organisations to youth development groups and religious organisations, for many, schools are the remaining social formation entity through which they pass. Therefore, it is more important than ever that our schools are well equipped to be centres of community flourishing. To this end, we present from this research the Thriving Schools Index.
